Beethoven's birthplace 12/16/1770 |
I had intended to write this big deal entry this morning, Beethoven's birthday; 200 years ago, totally deaf, his 8th symphony yada yada. With the Connecticut tragedy, pointing thoughts toward this just don't feel right.
My dad was born in 1910. To put this in perspective, his birth stands in the middle between now and Beethoven's best years. In fact he was closer to Beethoven's lifetime than to the present day. That bridging of time was the theme of what I had in mind.
Here is a movement from his 8th symphony of 1812. The conductor is Otto Klemperer. His son was Warner Klemperer, the Colonel Clink of Hogan's Heroes fame.
The post on Beethoven's birthday can wait for another year. Let's focus on what is important.
