Friedman poses that question in the NYTimes this morning.
He reports that the Gulf-BP cleanup is progressing and that we caught a bit of luck in that there have been favorable currents, winds and few storms to drive the oil slick to the coast. It is still horrible and a disaster and much that we don't know in consequences...well its like when your parents went out on Saturday night when you were in high school and the gang showed up to party. You hope you got everything cleaned up before they came home.
This time the "parents" are the US Senate and it doesn't matter. Our constitution - you know - the document we have to live by, doesn't mention Senate Rules which now require 60 votes to have a discussion. This is something of a super majority and the Senate is pretty much in paralysis as a result as there are 41 republican votes and 59 democratic votes so nothing comes up for debate unless the 41 republicans allow it.
Friedman doesn't mention this fact of life as we now find it. Just thought you would like to know.
