So this morning we have been to University of Kentucky basketball, UFOs and now what? Well I'm kinda drawn to the fair state of Virginia where there was a proclamation that honored the Confederates of that fair state and the armed brethern who took up against the Union. If you remember the amazing Ken Burns series on the Civil War and noted a brass band tooting here and there, I was in that band that did the recording (this isn't us but you get the idea). We played the stuff on period instruments. It was grand.
The War wasn't however. It was a killing machine. It wasn't about slavery at first. It was about the Union and preserving it. Emancipation didn't come for a couple years. That this fool in Virginia honors the "cause" is just being an ass. That he would honor the dead, well you should always honor the dead but this was a fool's mission brought about by hot headed zealots who commited treason. I've studied and read about this damn war for 50 years now. I never cease to be amazed at the idea of charging fixed positions across open fields in the name of gallantry and honor. This Virginian Governor, who never charged anything other than a bottle of Jim Beam's at the local package store...the voice of Repubican "moderation"?
