On on U of K

I spent a few years teaching and amassing doctoral credits at the University of Kentucky and was, for a couple years, the assistant director of University Bands. Part of that job was the pep band at the basketball games so I got to conduct the last note played in Memorial Colisieum and the first note played in Rupp Arena.

After Michigan State, the bands were ok but not like the monster bands in the Big Ten (go Michigan State!).  The basketball, however, was, even in rebuilding years, a religion. Colonel Sanders of chicken fame sat in front of the pep band and the Govenor of the State would always drop by when we played My Old Kentucky Home.  The horrid voice is just the guy recording it. The accent is unfortunately real. The words are even worse. It nearly killed the liberal in me that's for sure.

UK had a great year this year due mostly to freshmen whiz kids. They are all going to the NBA draft now - even one who is a "project" at best. Bad news for UK.  The King is dead. God save the King.
