Years ago I survived a doctoral year with Gerhardt Herz, the Bach scholar. I mean the go to guy. It was the hardest academic year of my life.
He had one of the very few Bach signatures in the world that survived. 268 years now since his death...possible 290 since the signing.
Imagine that. A 300 year old piece of music written for tonight. I got to see a signature. Herz is long gone. His love of Bach lives on.
