East and West Florida

I think Florida is a crazy state.  There.  I've said it.  I've lived there for work; two companies that were both God awful, run by transplanted Northerners who knew a boneheaded populace when they saw it.

When I was reading about the Treaty of Paris (today in 1783 by the way), I noted for the first time that Spain signed one of the little treaties that surrounded the main deal between England the the Colonies. We got all the land north of Florida to the St. Lawrence and west to the Mississippi, England kept Canada, Spain got East and West Florida.

In 1819 we traded claims on Texas from the Louisiana Purchase for Florida.

Whew.  Not such a good deal ?

Anyway, the Treaty was signed at some hotel in Paris at what is now 56 Rue Jacob. Today, 233 years ago.

We eventually got Florida.

Win some. Lose some.
