The view from on top of the world

Everest ...  a top down view
I can really remember this day  as one of our Weekly Reader days in third grade,  Mrs Hood's class, Colerain Elementary School ..  I sat in the second row in from the door in the second seat from the front .. (and now can barely remember my name) and on this day  probably nearl 70-some years ago  we got our Weekly Reader and read all about Edmund Hillary reaching the top of Mount Everest.

He had a Shirpa guide, Tenzing or something - I'm not looking it up. Also, I remember the height to be 29,028. Now it is 29,035...even farther away.

Today is his day...Hillary's that is. Today is the day he made it to the top...crisp May morning. About 11:30am local, 1953.

The picture upper left is from the space station; nothing that I ever dreamed seeing except at the movie theater and certainly never thought I would see Everest from above let alone from it.

Life's mysteries.
