Our Donald has outwitted even himself.
There is now serious consideration being given to arming teachers and other appropriate administrators with the "gun du jour", so at the least sign of trouble, they can play Quick Draw McGraw and mow down the intruder. Never mind that, as the NYTimes recently reported, that trained police officers hit their intended target <20% of the time when in a gunfight.
So think of that number. Generously, let's say each teacher shoots as accurately as a policeman; the result being 4 out of 5 bullets miss and go somewhere? That doesn't sound good in a crowded hallway.
Interestingly enough, the marksmanship of the invader/shooter isn't much better. Cruz, the invader, fired about 100 shots killing or wounding 35 in total. In cold terms, someone hell bent on shooting fish in a barrel hit someone about twice as effectively as a would-be teacher or other defender would achieve.
Our Donald put this forth, as did the NRA and a number of like-minded gun proponents as the best solution or at least the next one on some Grim Reaper's bucket list, and that isn't even the elephant in the room.
Under all this is the dead on fact that in one of these school scenarios the only person who has made the moral or immoral commitment to shoot someone is the invader. He/she has crossed a line and talked himself into it. But the kicker is that the shooter KNOWS he is very likely to die; death by suicide or SWAT. Makes no difference, he starts shooting and he starts dying at the same time.
The straight-line solution is to either register or confiscate and store every gun and then tell the manufacturers to cease. Let the military buy the guns; they have all the money. People, by in large only want guns because others have them and they are scared to death.
That Trump could seize on this idea and even for a minute give it consideration as a solution....well it makes my head hurt.
