The Mozart Effect

This is Zell Miller, former chief of staff to Lester Maddox, former governor of Georgia, former Senator from Georgia and former Fox News Contributor.

About 15 years or so ago (on this day by the way) he proposed spending about $104,000 in Georgia on CDs - classical music CDs - and then giving them out to the kids.

He was a believer in the "Mozart Effect", a school of thought about exposing kids to Mozart et al will make them smarter. The evidence was pretty slim in support of it. Slim to none actually.

The notion has been around in bits and snatches for years.  Zell's proposal was based on a bit of bad science and wishful thinking as are most things that are aimed at kids to make them brainiacs.

Just thought I'd report this to you this fine Monday morning.
