Fat Bastards

A gloating fat bastard
Terribulis Americanus
Rush was overjoyed yesterday as the House of Representatives voted to lower food stamp (SNAP) benefits by a few billion dollars, thereby knocking a couple million out of the program and effectively reducing the monthly amount.  Right now that is, on average, about $153/month or $5 and change a day.

Let's start with the basics.  In spite of the Rush Limbaugh rhetoric, $5.00 and change doesn't feed anyone nor will it make someone rich.  It will, however provide perhaps 1 good meal a day besides breakfast...well strike that....one carb rich meal a day.

The perspective is that states that are heavy with SNAP benefits have a lot of other issues going on besides poor people lined up to take Rush Limbaugh's tax money in the form of food. Of interest are the number of states with large percentages "on the dole" that are controlled by the GOP.  Obviously their back to work programs aren't doing to well but that is another story.

The underlying number here is the large and growing numbers living in poverty and for a multitude of both entrenched and transient reasons.  It is a tough cycle to break but adding hunger to it won't solve the issue.

I seriously suggest that you see where $5.00 and change will do for you day in and day out.  No more Starbucks.  Happy Meals are but a dream.  Just waddle on over to the high sugar/high carb aisle and have at it.

The plain truth is that SNAP is, for most, a supplement that permits some form of existence other than a bare cupboard and why these fat rascals relish belt tightening here while moaning about not enough tanks and big new ships is, well, not in my realm of comprehension.

Fat bastards should not be making food policy for hungry people.
