WFMT FM in Chicago was a powerhouse FM station and of course saturday morning (now some years later) in college meant about an up coming English lit class and sitting in the front row trying to make heads or tails out of Blake and a chem lab in a building that was a chem lab in the 1860s and the afternoon at the fraternity house cleaning up for the saturday night party and then when all was said and done, the midnight special. Tom Lehrer, Buffy St. Marie and countless others graced those airwaves.
It came on, clear as a bell on the basement radio and after curfew for our dates (all females lived in dorms and their doors slammed shut at 11p) we would plop down and listen. These were war years and everyone was on edge so the decided "lefty" bent of the program was welcome. Tom Lehrer was a favorite. Overall, these played well at a Lutheran university in northern indiana let me tell ya'.
