Now even I am confused

Let's take a wee step into the unexplainable.  To be more specific, let's head down to North Carolina.

I was caught in traffic for a bit and while zipping through the AM dial, I heard the jolly voice of Rush and he was in bad humor about the gay marriage issue and the President's personal stand of being in favor of it or, to put it in correct terms, not opposed to it.  The reasoning is it is a personal choice and the rights and benefits that go with it to straight couples should extend..yada yada.

Rush launched into the men will marry sheep stuff (when was the last time you saw a yew lined up at social security...) and then cited North Carolina, a state that just banned gay marriage.  Coincidentally an old buddy of mine posted this picture (right) on my facebook page.

I didn't know that so I looked it up.  Half the states ban marrying one's cousin and in the "good to go" list of states there was North Carolina;  but it had an asterisk big as life next to it.  My mind raced to conjure up what that asterisk could be for;  1.)  not on Sunday  or 2.) voter ID required or 3.) --- well 3 was a little weird so I'll pass on listing it here.

The (*) was neat and simple.  In North Carolina you can marry your first cousin but not if you are "double cousins".  What? What you say? What are double cousins?

double cousin (plural double cousins)
1.A cousin who is related on both sides of a family. A relative with four common grandparents.

Translation:  if you are the offspring of first cousins and you marry another offspring of first cousins - well you can't do that.  If you are gay you can't get married at all but if your family tree resembles a wagon wheel you are, again, "good to go".

If North Carolina decides to leave the Union for whatever reason, just up and leave, no fair thee well, just skedaddle on out....well. OK.
