The SS Lollipop

My father used to, at times of eyeing a crowd of fools, say "my my ... all those arms and legs and not a brain amongst 'em".

Our national Senate and House of Representatives, after being asked to mow the lawn, thought about it for a while then decided it might require too much effort to get off the sofa, passed a piece of junk while simultaneously kicking the can - no mean feat for a group comprised of folks with only arms and legs and without a brain between them - and then - plane reservations at the ready - fled the city to live off the largess of persons of real interest to them (those who pay big bucks to sit with a pair of arms and legs and no brain). They'll be back in a month so perhaps we are safe from their bouts of mindless fancy and unless another debt rating company lowers the boom, we might survive August if we don't bake to death in the mean time.....WHEW!...let me get wound up again and restart that.

We out here, we outliers, have figured out that there is a lot of trouble afoot and we are being fed a line by these folks who only have arms and legs and no brain amongst them. Truth be told, they don't have a clue. If our families are faced with more expenses than money we do two things; we sit at the table and figure out where we can save a buck as best we can and perhaps the back to school spending will require a few less clothes and least year's backpack. Then one of the adults gets a second job to bring in some extra money. It isn't forever...it is to get through the rough patch. That's what folks with arms, legs and brains would do. Our guys in Washington are having none of the common sense part of this.

But they are out of town now - congressman; do no harm - which should be the first law of politics. We are safe until after Labor Day from their mindless furies and posturing, their incoherence and their endless soundbites. All this is, of course, our fault. We elected this gaggle of geese.

They are us to some extent and unsettling as that news might be it is still the news.
