Ms. Bachman and a whole bunch of others are holding forth in New Orleans at some meeting of the Neuvo Klan disguised as a republican gathering. All the red meats are there and Ms. Bachman has just uttered the wonderful phrase:
"You (New Orleans) have survived Katrina and you have also survived Obama's drilling moratorium". Now that is cute and what some would call a "throw away line" meant for a chuckle. Others would, however, point to it as an example of the root of the problem. Let's be accurate here.
The drilling moratorium caused no issues for workers as the government compensated all workers effected by the moratorium - less than 1000 total by the way. The number of drilling projects effected was 5 and the number of applications put on hold for approval was less than 10 but no more than that number - and only until some demonstration of safety could be demonstrated. She glossed over that it was BP's ultimate fault that the economy was clobbered and that true 20 lives were lost, Katrina killed nearly 100 times that many and Ms. Bachman's Bourbon Street may have survived but large sections of the city haven't now half a decade later. She seems to have forgotten "heckava job Brownie" and the tepid at best response.....simply framing any comment while in New Orleans as "we are republicans and we are here to save you" is laughable on face.
But this is just Ms. Bachman being Ms. Bachman. In a state that gives you a Senator Vitter and a public education system that gives Mississippi a run for its money, facts don't seem to matter and if throw away lines that are simply crazy when you think about them - well Ms. Bachman is your gal.
