I live in a fairly conservative republican area. One of our problems - and it is a huge one - is lack of local media and I'm not kidding. We have weekly papers here and they dwell entirely on what I call "horizon news"....news from places you can see by standing in your front yard and not originating past your line of sight. New York City, with a continuous wealth of news, has little effect or interest in or by our locals.
What we get here, as far as a play by play of what's up in the world, nation, or of interest, is talk radio....this is wall to wall Rush Limbaugh and Glenn Beck land and that's the liberal part of the right wing spectrum. Hence, the only news this week is that O'Bama was in some sort of Kenya-Ireland proving conclusively that his Hawaii birth certificate is bogus. We get that out here....and we have folks, voters who hang outside the local 7-11 before and after work, clogging the parking lot and carrying on about the "raghead in the oval office". What is missing, aside from brains and perspective, is that the part in charge of the House of Representatives and knocking on the door this fall of the Senate, is that the loyal opposition party (Republicans) ran on a platform of "Jobs Jobs Jobs".
I would opine that there has been nothing - nada - zip from the House of Representatives that has anything to do with JOBS JOBS JOBS. Nothing. Zip. NADA.
My little friends at the 7-11 don't talk about this because their outside world contact is WABC or WOR radio from New York or on bad reception days, the Connecticut radio stations that are carriers of the WABC/WOR national feeds. We don't get the daily NYT at the 7-11 not that any one of these folks would buy it...but these folks at 7-11 have no prompting to remember that the big landslide election of 2010 - the repudiation of all things O'Bama was based on JOBS JOBS JOBS and their source of commentary has magically left all that out of their daily pablum. ... that the House has put forth nothing....NOTHING...in the Job vertical. NOTHING.
NOTHING......did I mention that in the NY 26 congressional district that the first democrat in my lifetime was elected? Got it Eric? Just asking.
