Never tell your opponent what you won't do.

Dear Mr. President:

I write you this morning to express my concern.  Plainly speaking, your batteries need a recharging.

In case you haven't noticed, you are faced with about 80 supercharged folks who think they can emit fire bolts like Zeus.  The more moderate ones, if there are any, suck the energy out of the room and not in any good way.  Your own party, from whom you should gain energy is as inert and as pliant as Chamberlain at Munich. You can't supply the energy needs to them and you shouldn't.

This is a good time too.   You got through this last little hurdle with all but the most zealous thinking it was your fault. So you have a couple days without a lot of pressure other than the normal ills that have befallen anyone who follows Mr. Bush.  I would opine that it isn't a time to be gracious however.  You inherited the mess of messes - the real Hoover to Roosevelt hand off - and it is nice that you convey the optimistic tone and direction but for crying out loud call a spade a spade.  This is "cards up" poker here and your hand was a pair of 2's with a  7 high unsuited with at best an inside straight.  Say it. Why don't you just tell the folks that Bush et al got out of town about a second before the earth quake struck......we out here in the sticks know full well that we are in the midst of a disaster of sorts and are hanging by a weekly thread.  Now you have a whole bunch of folks in congress who think that testing our "economic fortitude" will make us stronger.  Yeah right if it doesn't kill us before we learn the lessons - whatever they are.

The right wing always wants to make the poor stronger rather than richer or less poor.  That is a blunder of a position and I point out to you that in history the poor have never gotten stronger by starving to death or dying for want of a shot of penicillin.   Why don't you just say that if one child dies of hunger or medical need that death belongs to Mr. Boehner and company.  Lay it at his door as he is the responsible person here who took the other path never taken.

Just some Sunday morning thoughts for now.  I'll let you know how you do.

Regards,

Phineas Fogg
