Of course the reaction to the Presidents budget starting point was that typified by Mr. Boehner who "refused to discuss any new taxes" in solving the budget. To be clear the Presidents plan was for 3 parts spending reduction to 1 part taxes and those taxes are targeted on the ultra-rich; the <2% who earn about 40% of all the money earned in the country by those who work.
The effective tax rate for the "over a $million crowd is under 18% even though the tax brackets indicate far higher. It is lower than middle income people pay on average. The super rich - the 400 biggest returns that are summarized by the IRS every year show an effective rate of less than 10%. You can look it up.
The effective tax rates on the less than 50% of corporations that actually pay ANY tax whatsoever, is about 5-7% depending on who's figures you believe.
We hand the petroleum industry actual cash incentives...the Brinks Truck effectively pulls up to their door, and they get subsidies that amount to all the money the nation as a while spends on day care for low income workers, head start, and just about all the spending cuts wrung from latest congressional action centered on discretionary social spending.
This howl from the far right may make good theater but it is sure a lousy commentary on principles and societal responsibility. It is also pretty darn selfish and the most amazing thing is that these people are not ashamed.
