I just love it when things like this pop up on YouTube. This is "La Belle Helene" overture composed by the Frenchman Offenbach (who wrote the "can-can" music) and it is performed by the orchestra from Nichny Novgorod - what used to be the city of Gorky (named after the poet Gorky and the 4th largest city in Russia - no kidding). Good little orchestra but more fitting a city of 40,000 than 1.2 million.
Maxim Gorky (picture) doesn't resonate much poetically with me other than I find him interesting because of when he lived - through the revolution - although he spent most of the time in Capri (Isle of) and missed the big stuff.
Nothing much here except a fine performance and some trivia oh, and this quote:
"One has to be able to count if only so that at fifty one doesn't marry a girl of twenty".
