"I feel a great disturbance in the force as if a million souls cried out in anguish"

A decade or so ago we attended a birthday party for a rather gentle and somewhat eccentric fellow who lives near by.  He was retired but still active and in good health and in the 30 years or so that I've known him, had never a cross word to say to anyone. This was a very nice evening and we still talk about it.

All the neighbors chipped in and bought him a 'star'....well we had his name put up on the International Star Registry and got the map and the big, framed wall thing and he was very proud of it and for the past ten years you couldn't escape a visit to his home without a reference to it. It hung in his study, a rather small room in the center of a 200 year old house that was both cluttered and organized; an embodiment of his mind in a visual format.

It is about 3am and the rescue squad has come to and gone from his home and the interval since has been marked by cars to and fro.  He hasn't been at all well of late and we are all hoping for the best but daily fear the worst has come about. What is that old saying about "nothing good every happens after 2am"?

The first light of day will tell the tale if one is to be told.  Daylight reveals the truth I guess but what it really does is negate the stars.
