The Constitution and the Republicans

The Republicans, in a symbolic gesture, are having the entire constitution read at the opening of the House of Representatives this session and then requiring that when a measure is introduced on the floor that it carries with it a cite as to where in the constitution is there "authority" to enact such legislation.  Seems like a great idea. Naive, symbolic and totally out of touch but there it is.  Here are some areas of the federal government that have NO BASIS in the constitution.  Care to tell us which ones you want to do without?

•The Air Force
*A standing Army (2 years only)
•Congressional Districts
•The Electoral College
•Executive Order
•Executive Privilege
•Freedom of Expression
•(Absolute) Freedom of Speech and Press
•"From each according to his ability..."

•Immigration
•Impeachment means removal from office
•Innocent until proven guilty
•It's a free country
•Judicial Review
•Jury of Peers
•"Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness"
•Marriage
•Martial Law
•No taxation without representation
•Number of Justices in the Supreme Court
•"Of the people, by the people, for the people"
•Paper Money
•Political Parties
•Primary Elections
•Qualifications for Judges
•The right to privacy
•The right to travel
•The right to vote
•The separation of church and state
•The Separation of Powers Clause
•Slavery

  1. You seriously need to pick up an annotated copy of the Constitution and start reading! You are making a complete fool of yourself here.

Why should the US constitution, a document that establishes a national government and its relationship with the states and the people, include matters that are properly state powers and procedures?

Why should anyone have to "do without" phrases in the Declaration of Indepedence or Gettysburg Address?

Why would the Constitution include an expression from the Communist Manifesto? (...from each....)

Why are matters not explicitly mentioned in the Constitution forbidden by it? Executive Orders, for example: how does the POTUS give effect to legislative actions without issuing rules, regulations and orders?

Why should the fact that the Constitution does not cite the number of supreme Court justices mean that anyone has to "do without" the numbers now there?

    Slavery? See the 13th amendment

    Electoral college? Art. 2 , Sec 1

Immigration? Art 3 Sec. 9 (and elsewhere, giving Congress the power to create rules for naturalization

The consequence of a successful Impeachment means [only] removal from office --- Art. 1, sec 3, final para.

Air Force not constitutional? Was it constitutional when the two branches were merged into the Army Air Force back during WWII?
Why would setting up separate command structures be unconstitutional?

    and on and on.....

Face it: deep down, you're shallow.
