Venus....the morning star

How beautiful shines the morning star that nations view from afar...

or something like that anyway.  Venus, the planet (not a star but back then who knew much) is our greeter for a new day.  It guides us through the night and goes its merry way with the sun.

We know a great deal about it now - certainly more so then when I read my Golden Book of Planets in the 50s.  I'm certain we are better for the knowing  but also there is a tinge of regret that a guiding light - both navigationaly and spiritually - has been reduced to the limits of empirical science.  Some things may be more vital to our soul to be left in the realm of spirit rather than that of knowledge.

Think about it.  We aren't going to travel there - perhaps ever - except for some drones that don't survive long.  It is way too hot, seems to have an atmosphere that is so dense as to preclude seeing outbound.

Besides, it is something we romanticise  about.  We have an equal place for the ETs being from Venus as we do from Mars - or did once. Our exploratory urges are outward not inward so this little planet will be relegated to saying goodnight and good morning.
