There is some press of sorts about the potential finding of some of Amelia Earhart's remains. You can read the story here.
First I have to do a journalism "bash" of sorts as you have to remember the basics of any reporting/story is "who, what, where, when and how". Mostly applying to murders or crimes (three men robbed the bank on third street this morning at 9 by giving a note to the teller) it is just good practice. If you read the Earhart story it conveniently leaves out the "where".
Howland Island is a scrap of a place resting about a million miles from nowhere and these bone fragments and some personal items were found on a deserted island nearby. OK. The finders don't want a horde of treasure hunters arriving with those loopy devices people use down at the beach to find coins. I get it.
I also get that Ms. Earhart went missing 73 years ago on the day my sister was born. I politely suggest that my sister is Ms. Earhart incarnate but she is afraid of heights and hates to fly. The point is, Amelia is gone. She has a nice legacy memory but we will be and she will be no richer for finding her final place on earth. The only ones who will are the folks looking for her. But to what reward? What is the story?
Sometimes looking for such things are the things the split "interesting" from "necessary".
