Atmospherics being right, I have a fairly clear shot at over night radio stations. Years back radio signed off around 1am and 'resumed their broadcast day" the following morning at 5. Someone finally figured out that the population is composed of nearly a third who, for various reasons are up at night and aren't buying supermops, shamwows and slapperchoppers...instead opting for radio.
I can tune in the Charlotte, NC station easily as well as Baltimore, Boston and Buffalo. WBBM was clear as a bell last night as was WLW in Cincinnati. In short, a good night for listening.
There is a station in NYC that plays "old time radio programs" 24/7 but has a weak signal so I don't get it much. I was lucky last night and was eengrossed by the Lux Radio Theater.
I'm not going to tell you where on the dial it was....you need to find that for yourself. One of the great joys of imagination is putting your fingers on the tuning knob and slowly searching the length of the dial, taking note now and then and remembering to come back if nothing appeals to you farther on in the search. Radio is perfect for those with imagination and a sense of geography and time if nothing else. It will always be my favorite way to travel.
