Have you ever thought of the danger to be found in the Wikipedia phenomena? I go there sometimes for something arcane and unless you have access to a great research library, it is a down and dirty way to get some basic information but it should stop there. There was a time if and when you wrote a short "entry" paper for publication, just about every sentence had to be footnoted as to source and then there was fact check and peer review before it was even submitted - because the reputation of the place you published it was at stake and publishers were very very very uptight about the reputation aspect. A small article was, frankly, hell to get published because it was small and everyone loved to pounce on it to find an error.
Wiki really doesn't enjoy that vetting. I agree with Colbert on this.
