No kidding. It is or must be an honor and they play well. A long time ago I studied trumpet with a guy, Harry Wallerstein who during the 30s played with the Cities Service Band. Most of the big companies had them. They were concert bands that toured town to town as publicity tools, playing in parks mostly. Part of it was just the sheer advertising and getting the name out - and these bands could play because they simply had to be good or they were of no benefit ("I heard the Gulf Oil Band last night and they stunk ergo their gas must stink").
