Mission Accomplished

Well, the NYTimes has an editorial this morning on Iraq and progress toward being on their own. redux.

When George the Younger announced "mission accomplished" some years back - remember, he flying as co-pilot to the aircraft carrier to proudly announce we did our thing in Iraq - and then some 4-5 THOUSAND killed and 5 times that number injured later, we are still figuring out how to get out of that place and if we can, I'm still reading editorials about our presence.

Can we simply just say, once and for all, this was stupid from the onset and was a family vengence thing by a kid "wanna be president" trying to gain favor in is father's eyes? Can we do that?  It would be helpful if we did and recognized Bush the younger as the fool that he was and probably still is.

Was Saddam a bad actor. You bet your ass.  The boiling vat of oil was too good for him let alone being beheaded while hanging that SOB.  Could we have simply killed him by some other means and perhaps most of his cronies with the stuff that our Pentagon owns and uses, and about 10 times over? Yeah.  Were there weapons of mass distruction - mushroom clouds - well NO. And Condi Rice should never hold another job anywhere that requires her to tell the truth.

The take away here is that we are not "nice" to history long gone - we revisit a lot events and perfect the "historical record".  As we are some 3000+ days since George said we did our thing, it is well past time that this record be set straight.
