6 days in a row. 6.
Help.
There was a time not long ago that by now, 6am) I was on the commuter train into New York City some 75 miles away.
The trains are ok if you are 5-1 and weigh 80 pounds and your feet dangle instead of touching the floor.
Not me. Cramped and cranky was the rule of the day.
The big treat was getting off the train, slogging up 80 steps of stairs, 4 abreast in lockstep with the other 1200 who got off your train and trudging the block to the subway to finish the commute. Ahhh the dreaded #7 train. It would deposit me 90 feet under Grand Central Station with another 1000 people in heat that rivaled the gates of Hell. From here it was stairs and sometimes working escalators..the heat...the rats...the smell....I just remember that on days like this when aside from getting the mail from the curb, this kid is going nowhere.
