There will always be a South Carolina

Gail Collins writes interestingly about the politics of South Carolina in the NYT this morning.  This is the state that elected the fellow who called the President a liar during his State of the Union speech..rememeber?  If not, it also has Govenor Sanford who has that Argentinian girlfriend and a Lt. Govenor that compared school lunch programs to feeding stray animals.

My parents retired to the Palmetto State 40 years ago and lived there until their deaths.  When I first visited them there was a row in their town because there were two local high schools and one of them seemed to have, by some gerrymandering of the school district, had the better football players among the black population.  The town was, by the way, the last school system to desegregate.

South Carolina is also home to a swamp creature "LizzardMan"...something of a scaley bigfoot. You can see about a guy trying to get rich on it $20 at a time here.
