When you think about it, there is no more natural bond possible than parent - child. Marriages come and go and great ones last forever but they don't start at birth. What happens to a child is the life long concern of both parent and child and, even more so, for the child who has a parent from the second of birth to the second of death. Parents are and in particular the female who birthed, incredibly protective of their children - almost to the point of thoughtless reflex and as well it should be.
So whey this rant on Father's Day? Because it is the benefits of having a child born here, in this country, that to many is an ultimate source of protection. I'm not saying that some people may come here with the idea of giving birth and then selfishly living off the free fruits that our society provides. A lot of people, however, come here with the intent of giving their soon to be born kid the best possible chance.
Arizona has a notion of denying citizenship to kids from elsewhere who are "born here". It may become "law". On the Other Hand and it is a capital letters "ON THE OTHER HAND" is the US Constitution, 14th Amendment, that says: 1. All persons born or naturalized in the United States, and subject to the jurisdiction thereof, are citizens of the United States and of the State wherein they reside. No State shall make or enforce any law which shall abridge the privileges or immunities of citizens of the United States; nor shall any State deprive any person of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law; nor deny to any person within its jurisdiction the equal protection of the laws.
I recognize that Arizona has an illegal influx problem. I get it. Sending babies born here for whatever reason back over the border is not going to solve it. Moreover, don't fool with a Constitution that impacts my kids or their kids. Don't. Just keep your hands off.
And if you think there is wrath afoot in the protect the kids movement, on this Father's Day, when we get a day's rest, let the Mom's take over protecting her kids and her grandkids etc. from an incursion on our constitituion. Ohmy...if you pass this law, you guys run for the hills as if you sit in open ground you haven't got a chance in hell..
