Outside of being the most annoying person ever on TV the Shamwow commercial is an epic example of Direct Responce (DR) advertising.
If you break it down, the commercial:
1. tells you the name
2. presents the value proposition
3. shows you how it works by example
4. makes the cost comparison
5. call to make the order
Most DR commercials work the same way...long form (30 minute infomercials) or these short hits.
DR commercials are actually a huge service. If you take the amount of money necessary to get a product distributed to store shelves and to buy the shelf space, etc., this is a far more efficient way for a product to launch into the marketplace and winds up being a huge cost saver to the public.....that is if you can stomach Vince and buying a product like this...I mean do you really spill entire cans of soda on your carpet?
