ABCs? Not here. (by the way, the 3 Stooges bit here is choice) Block and tackle perhaps but hey, foresake the classrooms, let's look nice. No kidding. Not by much but it passed - a vote authorizing the school system to put in artificial turf on the high school football field...."it will save money, reduce injuries, lower maintenance cost and you don't have to water it". Price tag: ohhh about $1.5 million give or take.
A local guy who coaches a recreational kids football team was torqued off that he had to practice on one of the Playing Fields of Eden (you should see...amazingly kept playing fields..here is a map from Google Earth). Why does this drive me nuts? Because I have some experience with artificial turf and the crap...yes crap...that the locals were handing out in support of this was STUPID. Keep in mind we put in a night football game set of lights at $100k although the village and town ordinance makes it illegal to light up the night sky with any lights...that means local tennis courts in your backyard can't be lit....I digress.... It is hugely expensive, it has a shelf life of about 10 years then you have to resurface (think driving a new car out of the lot and depreciation), it has a $1.00/sq.ft. anti bacterial cost, the surface needs maintenance every month, rain or shine, snow or heat, and the injury rate is 1.6 times natural grass. So the reasons were all untrue.
