There was a quirky little movie called "Brassed Off" a few years back. You should see it if you get a chance or buy it because it will be not-findable someday at a Borders not near you. The long and short is there is a rich tradition in England involving Brass Bands. Every village seems to have one and they really can play. There is actually a national competition and that is the subplot to the movie...but there are starcrossed lovers (see the blonde and the guy smiling at her, a couple having hard times - see the trombonist and the woman with baby and a displaced band director who wanted this his entire life - see the guy from Shipping News peeking in). Anyway it is great fun and the playing is terrific. Think Lone Ranger.
