The oil spill doesn't seem to be doing anything much other than getting worse. Tom Friedman, in today's NYTimes calls for Mr. Obama not to "think small and carry a big stick" but to make a go at getting us off of oil oil oil oil once and for all. Use this catastrophe for a once and for all knock out blow.
It won't happen of course and we will muddle through but the country isn't finished with BP and big oil just yet. When the tourists money dries up in the Florida Keys, when that spill rounds the bend and heads toward the outer banks and the big money beaches on Long Island and, God Forbid, Martha's Vineyard then you will see retribution and it won't be in the form of a $1.00 a gallon oil-911 tax, but with calls for "off with their heads" of every elected official for miles. Well go get 'em.
