Don't just blame Obama...do something

We abound in doctor shows and doctor heros. From old Dr. Kildare to the ageless Dr. Bob.  We have always thought of these professionals as saints and in many respects they are - specially when they save a life, birth a child or generally keep a loved one alive through a combination of smarts and caring. Nurses are no less, perhaps even more. They make a fraction of the doctor salaries, work horrible hours and under administration that are certainly slipshod catch as catch cans compared to their training.

The of course it comes to paying for all this.  The highest individual health care costs in the world are rewarded with mortality rates that put us in the 20's (20+ place) compared to the rest of the world. Our infant mortality rates are horrendous.  We keep people alive late but at the cost of bankrutpcy - we scream (I don't but some morons do) about the "death tax" yet we support a health care system that wipes out one inheritance after another....particularly hard hit being the modest of means who want to just pass on a little something but get sick - just once - with a bad illness and if you think a $50,000 hospital bill for a week's in-patient care is huge, guess again.  Frank Rich writes about it this morning in the Times. I think he is off mark but he is talking about it. More should and pronto.
