The GOP visits the moon

"The Great Moon Hoax of 1835"
GREAT ASTRONOMICAL DISCOVERIES
LATELY MADE
BY SIR JOHN HERSCHEL, L.L.D. F.R.S. &c.
At the Cape of Good Hope
[From Supplement to the Edinburgh Journal of Science]
The articles described fantastic animals on the Moon, including bison, goats, unicorns, bipedal tail-less beavers and bat-like winged humanoids ("Vespertilio-homo") who built temples. There were trees, oceans and beaches. These discoveries were supposedly made with "an immense telescope of an entirely new principle."

180 years ago today.  Same old same old.

This is what the GOP thinks about as science. Not all republicans mind you.  Just enough to see science as some sort of gigantic set of hoaxes; as if God is a trickster of some sort.  Of the 16 or so in the gaggle of silly geese running for the presidency, 3 think man contributes to global warming, 5 feel that it is unsettled science and 8 outright believe it to be a hoax. The jury is still out with 7 of them on evolution.

With this kind of ignorance and hubris, we are doomed.
