What would 1776 be without 1812

There was a critic in Vienna two centuries ago who wrote that "some people are excited by the sublime while others are stirred by the simple beating of a drum". We seem to be going down the "beating of a drum" route...witness the 1812 Overture by Tchaikovsky with cannons and fireworks...sadly not our War of 1812 but someone else's and music written by a Russian! how un-American. You know there was a time when our congress wanted to ban Russian music just as they eliminated the teaching of German in many place during WWII - you knew that right?

Well here it is...Enjoy...listen for that big drum.
